We were then asked to write our opinions on the positives of politics, history, culture and society, and then we swapped sheets with our partners and wrote the negatives:
Using the lists, statements and points of discussion introduced in the studio workshop as a starting point, write 4 short statements that summarise your individual positioning / opinions in relation to the following contexts:
Politics:
I’d place myself as a supporter of the Liberal Democrats but
more left wing. I believe in some aspects people should be treated equally, for
example people should not discriminate homosexuals, other races. Everyone
should have the right to say what they want so therefore I support freedom of
speech. I think we should be taught to
question, respect and have the decency to listen to others.
History:
From a religious point of view I would have to agree with
science and the theory of evolution. I think our history is so important, it’s
what has created what we are today, and what we will be achieving in the
future. It cannot be changed but I think
from analysing, listening to and developing ideas, mistakes in the past can be
built upon so others do not suffer. For example the discovery of medicine and
treatment to cure disease and virus has had a huge positive impact on life.
Society:
Our society is forever changing, growing and developing. The
invention of new technologies is something which impacts greatly on the direction
of our society. One example, the internet, allowing for online communities to
share, influence and experience new things. Society is sculpted by the cultures
and the beliefs of the people, and without a diverse multicultural society I don’t
think it would be as exciting as it is.
Culture:
Culture allows us to experience new and exciting things, for
example foods, music, fashion, art, technology. It thrives off the beliefs of
the people. Sharing a culture which may not be accessible to people allows for
a different view on life, it improves our knowledge and awareness of what the
world is really like. Its great being a part of British culture, the music
scene, the education system in terms of it being free.
