OUGD504: Design for print, Aesthetic research

The audience I will be targeting my info-pack at are students in 6th form and students studying their art foundation in preparation for university, who will be going to university to study graphic design. 

Information packs can come in all shapes and sizes. They could include five different formats of information or even one format. For my preferred audience the tone of voice I will be going for will be fun, but serious, as I want to engage students but not let them loose interest. I believe this can be done by an even spread of information and images, and with the use of warm colours. For my information I have decided upon possibly making two posters which look at the design side of designing for print, and the production element.

For help and inspiration I'm going to research into different information packs. This will give me a greater understanding as to what would be appropriate in relation to colour, format, stock, font etc. I will analyse how different elements work towards creating a tone of voice.

Below is a perfect example of what I'm looking to do, an information booklet which folds out into a poster. I see that both sides have been printed on, and from the past I understand it is difficult to print double sided in the college without having some kind of problem with the alignment. The format works brilliantly, using both sides allows for greater information, and the use of text is balanced out with the use of image. Colours are very simple, black, blue, white and red, its eye catching. Only problem here is that it looks very formal, a tone of voice I am not going for.

This information pack is extremely varied. A lot of information is being given across here and in a variety of different formats. I believe drowning the audience with too much information is very off putting especially when I'm aiming it at 16 to 20 year olds. I really like the style though, it's very playful but at the same time serious.

This information has a very distinct design but is very interesting and engaging. The use of the orange is very powerful against the halftone images. I believe using one colour through out could be very effective, but it'd have to be the correct colour. The use of real image is also quite interesting, but if I was to use real images in my design I would want them to be the best quality as I don't want my design looking tacky.

I like the simplicity of these designs, its very straight forward but the image is interesting and engaging. Maybe not practical for my design but the style could be appealing to the audience I'm aiming towards.

Here I want to focus specifically on the packet that the information comes in. I am wanting to package my two posters up in little parcels and have them in a bigger packet. Here you can see how the information has been packaged in a bigger folder, it looks clean and the design is very simple. My design is helpfully going to be smaller than this, but this is a nice example/ idea of how I could present my work.

With this design I like how the information inside is very coordinated. Everything has been placed with precision, it looks helpful and very professional.
